by our special correspondent: The ordeal for a smooth exim Petrapole trade is far from being over. The exim trade again got stuck as the Bangladesi exporters demanded that India to have to take import in volumes so that they accept the exported goods. With Beijing softening it’s trade ties with Bangladesh it’s time to think if we can afford such hectic suspension of the exim trade on an often. 


The flag was raised on Friday by Kartick Chakrabarty , secretary of the custom clearing stake holders association , who informed all stake holders of the biggest landport. ” I tried to inform all the stake holders after the Bangaldesi exporters held a meeting. We dont want the trade to get halted agin .

We suffered a lot during illogical  halt of trade during corona outbreak.” Kartik said . 
Export of Indian goods to Bangladesh through the Petrapole border in West Bengal was disrupted since Wednesday due to agitation by a section of exporters of the neighbouring country, an official of Federation of Indian Exporter Organisations (FIEO) too expressed concern over the matter. India has allowed export of goods from Petrapole, the largest land border port with Bangladesh on June 7 but has not allowed import of goods from Bangladesh.”Bangladesh has stopped import since this morning on ground that their exports are not accepted by India even though have taken our export cargo.

There is a stalemate at the border”, a senior official of the landport said on condition 
The Bangladeshi exporters are annoyed as India has not allowed import of goods from Bangladesh through Petrapole, an official of Benapole Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Staff association said.
“The Bangladeshi exporters are annoyed with the stand of India at Petrapole. Despite imports by Bangladesh have been allowed since June 7, India has not yet permitted Bangladeshi goods to enter India in the wake of coronavirus. They are agitating and stopped imports at the border,” Benapole customs official added.


After a gap of over two months, bilateral trade has finally resumed through Petrapole Integrated Check Post at the India-Bangladesh border. The number of trucks crossed 100 only on June 10.Earlier the number ranged from 10 to 37 trucks from June 7.West Bengal resumed bilateral trade with neighbouring Bangladesh through the Petrapole Integrated Check Post (ICP) in North 24 Parganas district on Sunday.Earlier several letters from centre failed to keep the trade alive.
