
Poushali Kar ,Kolkata: The GD Birla Sabhaghar came alive with the sounds of classical brilliance as the Kolkata Music Festival 2025 unfolded in a soulful celebration of Indian heritage and human spirit. Organized as a tribute to the city’s medical community, the festival brought together renowned maestros and emerging talent in an evening dedicated to healing through music. Conceived by renowned percussionist Pt. Subhen Chatterjee and acclaimed sitarist Vidhushi Mita Nag, this event emerged from their shared vision to acknowledge and celebrate the tireless dedication of the city’s medical professionals and those in social service.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Gokul Nag Memorial Foundation, Peshkar Academy, Jog Foundation, and Omkar Trust, was honoured by the presence of eminent personalities from diverse fields, including the renowned Pt. Ajay Chakraborty, Sri. Debasis Kumar, Dr. G.V. Subramanium, Dr. Subhas Sarkar Smt. Satarupa Sanyal,etc.

The felicitation ceremony honored a distinguished group of medical professionals and dedicated social workers. Among them were Dr. S.N. Roy; Dr. Ashoke Ganguly, a highly regarded homeopath widely consulted by musicians; Dr. Kinsuk Das, a renowned gastroenterologist; Dr. Gautam Mukhopadhyay, a leading oncologist; and Dr. Parthasarathi Sarkar. Also recognized were two committed social workers — Ajoy Ghosh, celebrated for organizing the largest annual blood donation camp in Cossipore, North Kolkata, and Rajib Roy, Director of Hope Care, an organization devoted to elderly care and geriatric assistance.

The event featured captivating performances by stalwarts such as Pandit Samar Saha, Pandit Debojyoti Bose, Janab Wasim Ahmed Khan, Pandit Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, and Smt. Supriya Shah. Each artist paid musical homage to the dedication and sacrifices of healthcare workers.

One of the most memorable highlights of the event was an awe-inspiring ensemble performance by 100 young musicians from the Peshkar Academy of Performing Arts. Led by the acclaimed Pt. Subhen Chatterjee and Sri Arindam Barman, the ensemble featured a harmonious blend of classical and contemporary instruments, including tabla, keyboard, cajon, violin, flute, and guitar.
This collective tribute stood as a powerful metaphor for unity, rhythm, and resilience. Their electrifying performance captivated the audience and culminated in a well-deserved standing ovation.

The Kolkata Music Festival stands as a testament to the transformative power of the arts and its role in expressing collective gratitude.This inaugural edition successfully bridged generations of music lovers and underscored the power of art in times of adversity. The festival concluded with a standing ovation, promising a lasting place on Kolkata’s cultural calendar. Plans are already in motion for future editions celebrating both music and humanity.
