Residents blocked road to stop exim trade

Desher Samay: People of Choyghoria at Bongaon of North 24 Parganas blocked the road leading to Petrapole to stop exim trade fearing spresd of  corona. Nearly 200 villagers of Choyghoria blocked NH 35 leading to Petrapole on sunday morning.Their demand is that no trucks will be allowed to go Bangladesh and come back.

” They are fearing that since corona had spread its tentacles badly at Benapole the Indian trucks  and crews in it may get contaminated when they will go there. When they will return they may pass the contamination here as the road passes through the village” said Prasenjit Ghosh,  head of locsl Choyghoria panchayat.However the locals later persuaded back to their home after local administrative officials assured them to look after their apprehensions.

A day ago Trinamul supporters protested against allowing exim trade via  landport.The central govenrment however repeatedly instructed the port snd customs officials to carry on the trade with Bangladesh. The trade remained halted since 25 th March and only resumed at snail pace from April 30.As a result of the halted trade transaction worth over 10 crore are at hit so is the government’s revenue.The other stakeholders like clearing agents,porters,moneychangers too loosing their daily income due to halted trade.
