Nestlé India unveils tech-driven Distribution Center in Bhiwandi, featuring Digital Twin for enhanced operations

In a bold move to redefine supply chain innovation, Nestlé India has unveiled a next-generation Distribution Centre (DC) in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, featuring a Digital Twin for intelligent planning and a green logistics model aimed at reducing emissions and resource consumption. The facility marks a major milestone in the FMCG giant’s ongoing push to fuse digital innovation with sustainability in its supply chain operations.

The newly launched Bhiwandi DC stands out as the company’s first facility to feature a

Digital Twin—a cutting-edge simulation tool that enables virtual scenario planning for warehouse operations. By digitally replicating the physical environment, the Digital Twin aids in enhancing preparedness, optimising workflows, and improving operational resilience.

Equipped with approximately
20,000 pallet positions and housing the
largest cold room for chocolate storage

across Nestlé India’s distribution ecosystem, the centre represents a benchmark for logistics infrastructure in the country. Built in a record time of just seven months, the DC integrates technologies such as AI-enabled CCTV surveillance, a
digital rack inspection system
centralised Operations Command Hub
, and sensor-fitted material handling equipment to bolster security and efficiency.

Notably, the Bhiwandi DC is also home to
, a high-density storage solution designed to maximise space utilisation. The facility includes a dedicated repacking centre and operates entirely on digital systems, eliminating the need for paper-based processes.

“Efficiency, agility, safety, and sustainability are integral to our value chain,” said
Varun Gupta, Head of Supply Chain at Nestlé India
. “The Bhiwandi Distribution Centre exemplifies our team’s innovation and incredible efforts—bringing together optimal automation, synchronised planning using AI and machine learning, and unique omnichannel service offerings for our customers.”

In alignment with Nestlé’s global
Net Zero commitment
, the company has also initiated a transition towards greener logistics. Approximately
25% of cargo along the Sanand-Bhiwandi route is now transported using alternate fuel vehicles, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To reinforce its sustainability agenda, Nestlé India has launched an
Operations Command Hub and a
Logistics Operations Competence Centre
as part of its broader logistics transformation.

The launch of the Bhiwandi DC was made possible through Nestlé’s ongoing collaboration with its logistics partners, with plans to further scale the use of alternative-fuel transport solutions on key freight routes.

As global supply chains evolve under the pressure of digital transformation and climate imperatives, Nestlé India’s Bhiwandi hub stands out as a pioneering model—one that puts
at the forefront of operational excellence.
