by our special correspondent: Letters, reminders and warnings all failed to develop the much needed response from the state government to initiate the halted exim trade at Petrapole border. As a result when central government is losing crores of taxes the stakeholders too losing their livelihood. It’s really a stark irony that West Bengal government when allowing jobs to be done in phased manner, it is taking little or no initiative to keep alive the multicrore export, import trade with Bangladesh through Petrapole border.
Another important thing is while many noncontextual things atre getting prominance in media this has been kept under wrap. The letter sent to the chief secretary of the state too remained ignored.
While a section of villagers of Choyghoria, bordering the trade zone, are demanding that the trade be halted local Trinamul stalwart, Gopal Seth, too placed his demand in same line. However Rahul Sinha, senior BJP leader, slammed state administration for it’s failure to start the trade between two countries even after prod from centre.
” It is really pathetic to see that thoussnds of trucks are standing on both sides with goods. If those are cleared we could earn our pie and support our family.” said an exporter refusing to be identified fearing administrative lash for commenting such.
However two main factors seem to hold back the trade.First, failure of both state snd central government to set up screening and quarantine centre at check post and at entry and exit point at Motigunje.Such facilities would have assured the villagers that none is coming with the deadly contagious corona virus and none is going too with it carrying from Bangladesh.
Second is prper awareness campaign about this. However the political turfwar is yet to start on this issue also points that none is really interested in starting the trade except on screen and paper.
