Petrapole : The Indian Land Port Authority believes that once the situation in Bangladesh normalizes, trade in goods and passengers between India and Bangladesh will increase further with the establishment of a well-equipped check post at Petrapole.

He said that now the trade of goods with Bangladesh is more or less normal. However, if the situation in Bangladesh improves, the trade of goods and passenger traffic between the two countries will increase further. That is why the work of developing the port’s infrastructure is being completed quickly.
In the words of the chairman, “Trade in goods is necessary for both countries. Bangladesh needs it even more. We want relations and peace between the people of the two countries. Trade can be a means to this end.”
Last year, the Home Minister, while visiting Petrapole, said that trade between the two countries through the Petrapole port has exceeded Tk 30,500 crore. The passenger terminal building has been built on an area of about 60,000 square meters. It cost Tk 500 crore.This terminal will be able to handle 25,000 passengers daily. 70 percent of the land trade with Bangladesh passes through this port. About 2.4 million passengers traveled through this port in 2023-24. However, now passenger traffic has decreased significantly due to unrest in Bangladesh.

Now, on an average, about 400 trucks of goods are going to Bangladesh. Empty trucks are no longer traveling from Benapole to Jessore Road.
